What's
happening in the world of dogs? Check here to stay up to date with what's
the latest and greatest for your High Style Doggy!
Grooming
- Doggy Spas
The family dog is no longer just a pooch that sits
out in the backyard. Dogs are now part of the family and as part of the
family we want to treat them as well as we treat ourselves. Enter the
doggy spa. Sure a regular groomer gets the job done but we want our babies
to be pampered to boot. And why shouldn't they get the royal treatment?
They deserve it! Some of the fancy treatments your dog can expect to get
at a doggie spa are fantastic puppy massages complete with oils specially made
for canines, polish for those cute little claws, an array of clothes and fun
things for you owners to indulge your pooch after the spa day to name just a
very few. Don't have a doggy spa in your town yet? Don't fret, just
go online (check our directory) to find pampering items to give your dog a day
at the spa in your very own home. Just about everywhere you look you can
find speciality shampoos made with relaxing aromas, plush bathrobes, and even
that fancy claw polish! One of our favorite grooming supply brands is
Cain and Able Collection.
Their shampoos are gentle on your dog's sensitive skin and leave them smelling
amazing. Our favorite product is the Between Baths Spritz in the
Peppermint/Tea Tree scent because it lets you pamper your dog every day and
smells great to boot. So get out there and start pampering your pooch.
Online Puppy Selling Websites
- Protect Yourself
Unfortunately, this trend is not new to the dog world and is not a
positive trend. Puppy millers and brokers have been using online puppy
selling websites to sell dogs that are often sickly, badly bred and have
behavioral issues. Protect yourself
and look for a reputable breeder by contacting AKC breed clubs and asking for a
breeder referral list. If you don't know where to start, just go to
AKC.org to get started or feel free to drop us
a line and we'll help point you in the right direction.
Here are some great websites with more useful information on finding a
responsible breeder.

Traveling
-
You can take them with you
Travel is now becoming much easier for people who
want to bring their pets along. With the trend towards treating pets like
children people are no longer content to just board their pets when they decide
to go on vacation. Just plug in the words "travel with your pet" into
Google and you'll find a large array of sites that cater to making travel
easier. More and more hotels are making Fluffy's stay more luxurious.
Hotels have been the first to jump on the pet band wagon. Many hotels are
now pet friendly with a handful of hotels rolling out the red carpet for pets.
Westin Hotels offer a doggy package where your pampered pet gets a fancy
Heavenly pet bed. The Lawrence Hotel in Dallas gives pets a little toy and
some snacks upon check in. Travel items are also making it into the pet
world. Dog carriers are the hot item when it comes to pet travel.
You can spend upwards of over $100 for a run of the mill carrier and over $500
for a designer label carrier. Carriers are a must have. Your pet can
lounge in comfort in a suave carrier instead of having to endure the old plastic
crate type carriers of the past. Airlines are the final frontier when it
comes to pet travel. Air travel is still difficult to do with your pet
unfortunately. Most airlines require a hefty fee to travel with your pet
and forget about taking more than one with you because most only allow one pet
per person. If you have small pets you are more likely to be able to take
them on board the plane with you instead of having to check them as baggage.
Make sure to check your airline's guidelines before flying. If taking your
pet is impossible many kennels are making it easier on you and your pets.
Pet resorts and hotels are springing up everywhere and they are no longer for
the Tinkerbell crowd. Another option to boarding your pet is to have a pet
sitter watch them in your home. Look for pet sitters that are bonded and
get referrals from your vet or local dog boutique or from other people at your
local dog park. If you have to leave your pet behind these services are a must.
Pets are now family members and the travel industry is finally catching up to
this trend.
Pixie says: "I
love to road trip and feel the wind in my hair."
Tuffy says: "Getting
the red carpet treatment is my style!"
Halloween -
Now your dog can get into the fun!
Halloween is no longer just kid's stuff. Halloween has hit the dog world.
From high dollar custom made costumes to costume contests just for the four
legged crowd; Halloween is now a big time holiday for dog owners. Don't
miss out on this hot trend. Several dog websites are offering costumes as
well as other Halloween items. Some of our favorites include:
PetEdge for the more
budget conscious but still chic costumes and
Glamour Dog and
ImAPreciousPup
for the more high end costumes. Want something a bit more creative?
Check out eBay for lots
of fun custom made costumes. Now that you have a cute costume for your pet
you'll need somewhere to show them off! Check with your local doggy
boutiques, newspapers and other dog owners to find out what's going on in your
neighborhood. Even small towns are getting into the Halloween spirit with
local costume contests. There is no doubt that this trend will only
continue to become more popular so expect to see even more costumes and events
show up next year! It's never to early to start planning!
Pixie says: "It's my
1st Halloween! I expect to win the costume contest of course!"
Tuffy says: "I love
Halloween! Mommy takes lots of pictures of me 'cause I'm cute!"
